Keratin Blowout - The Hair Straightening Facts

The Hair Straightening Facts
Keratin blowout or BTK as it is commonly referred provides an unmatchable benefit of correcting dull, brittle and non-luster hair, which women loathe and have spent countless of dollars on straightening products. It comes at a cost though, and many women have fallen into the concentric circle of trying one keratin blowout product to another without getting the desired effect. I have decided to write this article to address that plight, and possibly provide a checklist that you can use the next time you want to get the straight locks or curls without looking over your shoulder, thinking if your hair will be falling out in handfuls. Keratin is a protein component that forms the building blocks of hair and nails. It is an enriching structural body of hair and gives it the shiny, silky luster that every woman wants.

The scalp is very delicate and healthy hair can frizz out as a result of exposure to conditions for instance exposure to sunlight and heat, and this can result in weakening of the hair shaft and eventual hair loss. Keratin blowout entails using liquid keratin, which is applied to the root of the hair shaft and slowly works up the hair to improve the hair texture, softens and straightens it. With the combined use of a straightening iron, it helps in bonding of molecules in the hair follicle, which on the outward view is "straightened" hair. Think of it as an internal repair of your hair, which like any other living thing, gains or deteriorates in response to outside stimuli. A major component of this treatment is the use of a chemical component, formaldehyde, which has caused a lot of controversy on safety concerns. The truth of the matter is that it is this component, which if used in appropriate levels in the keratin blowout product, produces the straightened effect on hair and keeps it that way for 10-12 weeks.

Recently there have been introduction into the market of non-formaldehyde containing keratin blowout products, for example the Coppola complex which as claimed have desired effects that can be achieved from Brazilian keratin treatment products, which at the very least contain acceptable levels of formaldehyde. (Below .02%) It is essential for consumers to go out and do research to find out which keratin products are the safe and do the job because most of the products that are out on the market contain what they call "safe" doses of the element, and safe can be connoted to mean 10% content! This is the level of formaldehyde, which was found in Oregon by a group of toxicology experts that led the Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to issue a warning on Keratin Blowout Products.

There is a growing band of products are gracing our store shelves claiming to lead you to the "no-frizzy" highway. However, in the end, the power rests with the consumers who have to brave the maze and make informed decisions not only to benefit them but benefit the health of their stylists!
