| Hypnosis As A Treatment For Menopause |
As a practicing hypnotherapist, I use hypnosis to induce a relaxation. This in itself is very beneficial, allowing the worries and stresses of the day aside, as you just let your mind drift and dream and my voice drifts with you. The aim is to provide suggestions of coolness to combat the heat of the hot flushes and to help to regulate the hormonal changes going on inside the body. It's not just women who suffer with hot flushes, men can experience them too and will benefit from the hypnotic relaxation. Hot flashes in men can be a side effect of prostate cancer treatment. It is always good to have options that are complementary to medical treatment.
The hormonal changes that menopause triggers is the lack of estrogen which brings on vaginal dryness which make sex more painful. Again with hypnotherapy treatment, you can learn how to restore some lubrication naturally so your body can feel desire and produce vaginal fluid to help the process. Many of the changes, while physiological, the psychological impact cannot be underestimated and we can use the power of your own mind to create new ways of being. For sexual desire, it is remembering a time when you were fully engaged with your partner. Nothing else crossed your mind, only the physical pleasure you were enjoying. We want to remind your mind of this. And if you need a lubricant, that you can still feel relaxed and at ease while in the moment of your love making.
Another aspect is the brain fog. Where has your focused self gone? Where has the clarity gone? This may be connected to the sleep disturbance which upsets our body's rhythm so again, with hypnosis, we want to engage with a sense of clearing and lightness in the mind.
The holding onto weight because another battle. You begin to lose your self confidence. You just do not feel right. But remember you are still there. There is a holding on, whether mental and/or physical, to weight. A change is happening inside. This requires a metabolism change which hypnosis can help with.
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are about looking inside yourself and creating the changes you want to make. We cannot turn back the clock but we can make this transition easier. Your body is going through these changes whether you want it to or not! You may as well do what you can to make it easier. In this way, you still retain the essence of you and who you are. You are not letting a physiological impact change you. Remember the first body change at 10 or 11 years of age, wasn't that more frightening. By the time you go through menopause, you are your own woman and if not, then it's time to stand up and be counted but first gain control and make your symptoms easier on yourself!
